After years of violent conflicts and profound political divisions, President Ouattara managed to solidify his rule. However, democratic institutions remain fragile, lacking significant vertical and horizontal accountability, with neither parliament nor the Courts holding much influence.
Côte d’Ivoire has maintained sustained economic growth. During recent crises, the government has demonstrated its ability to swiftly implement confinement measures, combat inflation, and provide support for disadvantaged groups and sectors. This was achieved through efficient and technocratic policymaking, backed by the president and the international community.
The government has substantially invested in rural infrastructure, education, and health care. Despite progress, poverty and low social development persist. Fighting corruption will be crucial for the future in order to strengthen the legitimacy of the political system and foster social cohesion.
